Last Mile - "s/t" CD
{Demons Run Amok Entertainment}
It's been ages since I got this CD... I was supposed to review it around 4-5 months ago, but, damn, once more there was a fucking delay... Sorry... The band has already out a new EP called "The Heavy Weight", but anyway, back to the point!
Here we have Last Mile's debut full length that was released by Demons Run Amok, one of the best quality hardcore labels from Germany.
May I state that Last Mile (by the way, they come from Denmark) is an all - star band? They feature two members of the legendary Barcode, plus members of Stomped, As We Fight and Hatesphere... So, yeah, here we definitely have an all star band!
Nevertheless, their first opus includes 15 songs of straight to the point hardcore for all the fans of Terror and bands that are influenced by Terror. Yeah, in my opinion, the main influence here is Terror! There are same more punkish riffs and some metal parts every now & then during the album, but all in all the Last Mile debut is a fucking awesome hardcore record, one of the best I listened to in 2008. And I feel really sorry for not reviewing this piece of gold before...
Lyricwise, they sing about more personal issues, but their lyrics are thought provoking as well.
The cover art and the whole booklet artwork is fantastic, check out the artist Christof Kather, you can find his link below.
Check out their new EP, as well.

Lutece Borgia - "Long Live Summer" CD
{Une Vie Pour Rien?}
Lutece Borgia is a street punk / oi! / rock 'n' roll band from Paris, France, and they exist for almost a decade, while some of their members are active in the scene since the mid 80s!
"Long Live Summer" is actually their first ever full length album, even though they have already released a demo, a 7" ("Dans la Boue", 2002), a MCD called "Choose" and a split 7" along with The Janitors, another cool French street punk / oi! band.
Moreover, they are featured in "Oi! The Meeting, 2005" DVD.
The new album includes 13 songs of street punk / oi! music with a lot of punk rock and rock 'n' roll stitches. They draw influences from bands like The Clash, Ramones, The Templars and Cockney Rejects.
The lyrics are mainly in English language, while there are 3-4 songs sung in their native language, too.
They sing about issues like everyday life, society, rich people, lost nights, alcohol & rock 'n' roll.
The songs are catchy, simple but well structured.
If you are into this kind of music, then it's worth to check 'em out.
Their CD is a nice digipack one with a fucking awesome cover (haha!) and it was released by the hard working French label "Une Vie Pour Rien? Vinyles" (yeah! I still owe you a shitload of money dude, sorry!!!!!!!), also home for The Janitors, The Daltonz etc.

Sixlip - "Know Who You Are" CD
{Pee Records / Broken Hill Records}
Sixlip is a straight up hardcore band from Christchurch, New Zealand!
Well, it's the first time that I'm writing a review for a whole record coming out of this country, but as far as I remember, I had some copies, a couple of years ago, of an awesome compilation that some buddies released there... so it seems that there's a cool punk / hardcore scene in New Zealand!
Pete from Pee Records headquarters (South Australia) sent me the new Sixlip CD, called "Know Who You Are", which is co-produced with Broken Hill Records, a nice label from New Zealand.
Sixlip offer 9 songs of straight forward and fast hardcore music in the vein of Terror, Comeback Kid (excluding the emotional parts) and Blacklisted.
The record was produced by the legendary Nick Jett (Terror), so the whole result is just ace. The lyrics are about everyday life / struggle, personal issues and some more emotional stuff.
All the packaging is cool and the cover is plain and nice!
Go and check 'em out now!

No Use For A Name / Plus Dots
{AN Club, Athens - 15.02.2009}
When I got the news that No Use For A Name, one of the best punk rock bands ever and a favorite one, were going to play for one show in Athens, Greece, I got really excited. It's been years since the last "major" punk rock band came to Greece (except The Offspring that visited us last year at the Rockwave Festival), so as a consequence many kids were waiting impatiently for that Sunday night show.
4 guys & girls from Larissa accompanied me to the trip
to Athens and after hours of having fun, losing things (...!) and hanging around, we went to the usual spot for punk rock / hardcore shows, the legendary AN Club.
Earlier, that afternoon, Markos (Through The Eyes of The Underdog blogspot, www.daunderdog.blogspot.com) & me had a great conversation with Tony Sly, the man responsible for the vocals & guitar of No Use For A Name through all these years (they exist since the late 80s!). The interview will be uploaded later this week, so check back or stay tuned!Back to the show... At 22.00 the club was full of punk rock kids (around 500 in total!) and it was time for Plus Dots to unleash their energy on stage! Well, I must admit that Plus Dots have slowed down their music a bit, which is more ska rock oriented nowadays, with a lot of punk rock influences of course, but without the hardcore breaks that used to have in the past. They played 10-11 songs, almost all of them new (with my favorite "I Need Some Time" among them), except 2-3 old ones ("No Destination", "The House Always Wins" etc.). I really liked their appearance, they are more mature, more melodic & more emotional since the last time I saw them live in Athens (that was 3 years ago, hehe!). I'm looking forward to their show along with No Fun At All in a couple of months!!!

After some rest, conversations with friends and fresh air that I breathe outside the club, I walked down the stairs of AN Club just in time of a short linecheck of No Use For A Name. Tony & the other guys took the stage and for the next 1 hour and a half we participated in one of the best punk rock shows of the last years. It's been a long long time since the last time I saw so many punk rock kids inside the club; the energy and the passion were overflowing from all the kids' souls which were about to burst.No Use For A Name started with "Justified Black Eye", went on with "The Way To Be Wrong" (of their latest record, "The Feel Good Record Of The Year", out on Fat Wreck Chords) and the rest is history!!! They played songs from almost all their records (no counting the first ones, unfortunately...) and all their classics, like "For Fiona", "Dumb Reminders" (kolasi!), "Soulmate", "On The Outside", "Friends Of The Enemy", "Invincible", "International You Day" and more!
Moreover, they even covered a part of "The Trooper" by Iron Maiden and "Don't Let Me Down" by The Beatles (pff!). Along with the last cover they played some of their songs that are more emotional and slow-paced, and it seemed that the crowd got a bit tired or melancholic, nostalgic or whatever (like me, ekopsa fleves, haha), but afterwards the party went on and they left everybody with a huge smile after the show!
Ah! I forgot to write that they played a very big encore including "The Biggest Lie" and closed their set with one of their favorite songs, "Feeding The Fire".
All in all, the show was simply fantastic and I wanna send my props to the guys that organized it. Panta tetoia!
Also, a big thnx to Danai/Icon for the photos and to Steos for reminding me some songs of the No Use For A Name setlist.

Punchline - "Stench of Deception" CD
{Classwar Records}
Punchline is a legendary hardcore band from Innsbruck, Austria; they exist since 1997 and they have released a bunch of quality records since then, among them a split with Permanent Style, 2 full length albums and a sold out demo.
"Stench Of Deception" is their latest release that came ou
t some months ago under a new label called Classwar Records and includes 11 songs of uncompromising hardcore, the way that only Punchline know how to play!
That means the perfect mixture between NYHC, 90s new school hardcore, thrash metal and punk!

Lyricwise, Punchline represent the hardcore ethics and ideology, while they are into political / social issues. Moreover, there's one song against abortion (I strongly disagree with this concept, if you need my opinion...). Besides that, they use caustic lyrics about today's hardcore scene and all this fashion that have replaced the spirit (or the passion, like H2O sing, hehe!)
All in all, the new Punchline record is fucking awesome and a must have for all the fans of quality all school hardcore.

If you believe that I exaggerate things a bit, then go buy "Stench of Deception" and check out yourself! Or you better attend their one and only Greek show in Athens, AN Club on Friday 27th February, hehe!!!
The amazing Spanish artist and cooperator of World's Appreciated Kitsch Records, called Javi (www.almaltiempo.com) designed the poster and he did a great work once more!
The bands that will share the stage along with the Austrians are Eden Demise, a brutal hardcore band from Athens (record release show!), Human Battle, street punk rock from Athens, too, and Against The Society, metallic hardcore from Volos city.
The ticket is 12 euros and the show will start around 21.30.
See ya there!!!

Nothing, I Know - "Face of fear" MCD
{WAK, True To The Game, RPHC, United X Front, Taenia, Bunker, Northern Territory, Troskot, High Voltage, Ugly & Proud, Devil Child, Wrong Side, Safety}
This MCD is the latest release of World's Appreciated Kitsch, in collaboration with several labels from all over the world (Spain, Philippines, Italy, Russia, Malaysia, Greece, Germany, Bulgaria, UK). Among them, there's True To The Game Records, the label that my good friend Steos is taking care of.
So, as you can imagine, this is a special release for us and I cannot write down an objective review; instead of this I'll do a mini presentation of the CD.
Well, first of all, Nothing, I Know come from Modena, Italy and they were formed in September 2007 by ex-members of bands like Dissonanza and Tearing Blood.
They are into metallic hardcore; we can call it metalcore, but it's not the right word I guess... They are influenced by Death Before Dishonor, Sick Of It All, Walls Of Jericho and the likes, but I cannot compare them to any of the bands mentioned above; in my opinion they maintain a unique style and sound...
"Face Of Fear" includes 5 very well structured songs fueled with metallic riffs, double bass drumming, breakdowns, fast parts, brutal vocals and an ultra tight production.
Moreover, the artwork is very nice and I really like the cover, too, that includes an old school typewriter, hehe!
You can get your copy in Greece either from WAK's distro or from True To The Game Records.

Malibu Stacey - "Sei Spettatore o Superstar?" CD
{Dracma Records}
Malibu Stacey is a punk/rock band from Torino, Italy.
Torino is located in the north of the country and has spawned a lot of cool hardcore / punk bands in the past. My favorites are Arsenico and Not Found (they are touring Greece for the 2nd time, along with Atlas Losing Grip this May, watch out for it!)...
Anyway, I got Malibu Stacey's (what a cool yet weird name, haha) digipack CD the previous month and I was impressed by the cool artwork and packaging. Musicwise, they are producing a nice blend of punk rock music with a lot of rock and alternative elements (maybe more than punk), that some times may remind you of Foo Fighters, Queens of The Stone Age & Pearl Jam.
I'm getting confused, you too? Yeah, Malibu Stacey is not a punk rock band with rock influences... It's an alternative rock band with a punk rock background, haha!
All the lyrics are in Italian language, so I have no idea of what they are singing about
Whatever, go check 'em out your self and mold your own opinion!
They won't dissapoint you for sure...
Take care.

Strength Approach - "All the plans we made are going to fail" CD
{GSR Music}
I was supposed to write this review before the Strength Approach greek shows... I didn't make it with the deadlines for once more, as you guess... What a jackass.
Anyway, here we are, better late than never, hehe!
Strength Approach is one of my favorite European hardcore bands since I firstly listened to them back in 2002. They were formed in Rome, Italy, 12 years ago and since then they have managed to put out several quality hardcore releases and tour everywhere, from Europe to The States and even Japan.
"All the plans we made are going to fail" is their latest opus that was released some months ago by the well known label, GSR Music (a.k.a. Gangstyle Records). It includes 15 songs of passionate melodic & straight forward old school hardcore, with no metal fills, but with a strong rock 'n' roll touch. Catchy riffs, great vocals, guitar solos, sing-alongs and in brief the record has everything that an open-minded hardcore / punk kid wants to listen to!
All the songs are favorites and I really like the lyrics, too; they might be personal, but they touch the hearts of various kids, including mine.
If you wanna spend half an hour full of hardcore/punk music, emotions and energy, then this is the record to listen to, trust me!

P.S.no.1: The album features guest vocals by Mustafa-Die! and Josh To Kill.
P.S.no.2: Strength Approach are touring Europe with the legendary Cro-Mags this month and then they fly to USA for a full tour along with another cool Italian band called La Crisi!

Strength Approach
{mini Greek tour report}
Yeah, I know, almost a month passed since the Strength Approach Greek shows, and I've been god damn lazy (or maybe god damn busy...) to write down a mini report about the tour in order to share with you some awesome moments and emotions. Strength Approach is a special band for me; have in mind that I'm trying to get em down to Greece since 2003... Jackass! Anyway, here we go:

Day 1, Friday 23rd January 2009:

We knew that almost all the national roads were blocked by some huge demonstrations leaded by farmers and workers in t
he agricultural industry... It may seems weird for people that live outside of Greece, but it's an almost usual way of demonstrating for the local farmers since ages. They stand for their own rights and they do well, even if they cause some troubles... But anyway, let's get to the point!I started the trip around 7.30 in the morning from my hometown, Volos, and drove straight to Larissa to pick up 3 malakas... Steos (the local hero, owner of True To The Game Records) and 2 fuckers that tripped from Thessaloniki to Larissa by train, xJimx (Arthouse resident, owner of xStrong Heartx Productions, ehw arrwstisei) and Nick the Man (ex-Demerit, you know the deal?).As you can imagine all the national roads that lead to Athens were blocked, so we did a 9 hour trip to cover just 370km... We even took a boat, eat just cheese & bread in a small village by the sea, drank around 3 espressos each (except Steos) and listened to stuff varying from Avril Lavigne to Cock Sparrer...
We arrived in Athens downtown at around 17.00 and met up with our other friends, that helped out in the organisation, and the Strength Approach guys, that our great friends I mentioned above, Vagios (ex- xVagiosx), xGeorgex and xLagosx had managed to pick up from the airport (thnx a lot dudes!) because it was impossible for us to be there in time...
Anyway, I guess you are getting bored so let's go to the show info...
After soundcheckin', hanging around, eating & stuff, th
e show started around 21.30. The first band to play was Plan-B from Athens and I must admit that they are great at what they're playing, imagine a mixture of melodic punk rock with some modern melodic hardcore parts. They seem to have a strong fanbase, as well...
After them, it was time for Fall Of Man, a well known b
and from the suburbs of Athens. They play melodic punk/hc in the vein of Rise Against and the likes. They just released a split CD with another cool band, Go Ask Alice, so check 'em out immediately!
Next, my favorite Greek hardcore band jumped on the stage! Censored Sound, a fucking awesome old school hardcore band from Athens... a
nd the kids started to move. The highlight of their appearance for me was their 7 Seconds (Young Till I Die) cover. It had been a while since their last appearance, so I was very happy to host them in that show. Besides that, some of their members are friends of mine, so this band is something more than just a band for me...
It was past midnight and the time for the very first
Strength Approach show in Greece was approaching... Around 150 kids (we were expecting lots of more for that kind of a gig, to be honest) were there, ready to attend the show, when Alexxx (Strength Approach's singer) grabbed the mic. For the next 45 minutes we took part in a great show and listened to all the great Strength Approach songs, especially the fresher ones, taken by their last 2 albums. Alexxx suffered from a great pain in his back and that was obvious in his face and moves, but he deserves our congratulations because he did his best and performed a great show.The show ended, the lights were off and after packing all our stuff and equipment, we splitted into 3 teams and went straight forward to the houses that were about to host us for that night... Some kids went to xLagosx's house, some others to xGeorgex's one and xJimx, Alexxx and me walked for just a few blocks and crashed down to Andromaxi's house (Jim's sista) for a bunch of hours... The alarm clock was set to 8 o'clock in the morning, fuck...

Day 2, Saturday 24th January 2009:
Against Me! (via the ringing tone) woke me
up... It was just 8 o' clock in the fucking morning and I was alone in the house... Jim and Alex had left for the train station to meet the others... We had booked train tickets for Strength Approach (and cancelled the van rental, in turn) because it seemed to be the only safe way for the band to get to Larissa in time. Only me and Vagios were about to travel with my car and cope with the blocked roads and the angry farmers. Just after I woke up, Andromaxi entered the house bringing croissants, orange juices etc. Amazing! I had a fantastic breakfast and then I took my car (loaded with all the merch & equipment parts of Strength Approach) in order to meet Vagios and start the trip. We really hadn't any idea when we were about to arrive in Larissa and what problems we might face... We were lucky enough and drove only 1-2 extra hours so there was some spare time to stop and eat in a cosy tavern, in a place called Karavomilos, haha! I must admit that it wasn't the best decision to order tzatziki and some expensive fish (for Vagios the jackass) in 12 o'clock in the morning...! Not only we paid a fucking great amount of money, but we also had a near death experience, Vagios and me only know...
Anyway, eventually we arrived in Larissa's center at 4 o'clock, met with Strength Approach and the others, went to eat again, had a coffee, did some jackass tourist stuff and went straight to the club for the usual unpacking and soundcheck.
The show started early, arou
nd 8 o'clock, because there was a trance party afterwards!Streetwise, a local band, played first and they impressed me a lot. Great 90s new school hardcore, fueled with metal parts, but nothing to do with the current shitty metalcore trend. Go on dudes!
Faithreat were next, featuring 2 Disharmonic members (my ex-band) and some other punks/metalheads from Volos city. We immediately started trashing the place up... Covers by Sick Of It All and Sacred Reigh were really appreciated, while the whole show was especially dedicated to my good friend/brother Leonidas that had his birthday the next day.
Then, Censored Sound played one cool set on
ce more. It was their first time in Larissa and they seemed to really enjoy the show. They drove back to Athens just after the show, respect...
Die Without from Volos city were next. Brutal hardc
ore at its best, for fans of First Blood, Born From Pain and NYHC. They covered Agnostic Front's "For My Family" and did a hell yeah great show.
Strength Approach appearance was amazing. I mean, dude, I enjoyed so much their set not only musically, but because of the ultra positive vibes they delivered to us. Endless stagedivings, high fives, positive moshpit and energy!!! Fucking amazing. Not more than 80 people (half of them from Volos city) attended this s
how, but it was absolutely one of the shows of the year. Word.Right after the show, we packed all our stuff, went to Ntolas' house, left all the baggages and equipment (because Strength Approach guys were about to crash at his house for a couple of hours; their train departed at 7.30 in the morning...) and went to Stones bar where Stratos VJ / Como Esta Loco was selecting cool punk rock / hardcore / metalcore videos for us. We had great fun, dancing and drinking (some of us beers, some others kiwi with sprite, haha!) till early in the morning!
Then Vagios, Kwnstantinos, Leonidas and me started our trip to Volos, where we arrived at 6 o'clock in the morning, left Vagios
at his home (he was about to leave for Italy the next day...) and crashed in Kwnstantinos foititander placee (we didn't want to go to our houses...!), after eating crespes(!) and drinking chocolate milk!
That's all I guess! Got bored? Fuck off!!!
Thnx to all the kids that helped out in this tour.
"We can do anything together, all of us our bon
ded forever"
Hugs,

Swingin' Utters - "Hatest Grits: B-sides and Bullshit" CD
{Fat Wreck Chords}
One of the best punk bands coming out of San Francisco / Bay Area is back with a fucking awesome punk rock release!
'Hatest Grits: B-sides and Bullshit' is their first kind of a compilation after several albums since their formation in the early 90s. In fact, it's not a best of compilation, but it features almost all their rare stuff, plus 5 unreleased songs, some never heard demo versions of Swingin' Utters classics and 6 bonus songs!!!
All in all 32 songs of melodic punk rock with a street punk / oi! influence, for an audience varying from Stiff Little Fingers' 40 years old fans to The Pogues' fanatics and So-Cal punk rookies.
This is absolutely a must have album for Swingin' Utters fans and I believe that there's not too much to write for a band like the Utters...
They feature members of One Man Army, Filthy Thievin' Bastards and Me First And The Gimme Gimmes, while they have toured for full years with bands like Social Distortion, NOFX and Mighty Mighty Bosstones.
Go get this album, it was released a couple of months ago and is still fresh and hot!!!
