Yeah, I know that 'Seizures in barren praise' was released months and months ago (11th November 2008)...
Yeah, I know that I got this promo before its release date, so extra points to my delay...
Yeah, blame me for being a fucking loser and 'drop-deadline-r' (sic) again...
Nevertheless, Trap Them fucking rule and it' d be an eternal shame not to review this masterpiece of music in general. This is their second full length album; besides this they have released 2 EPs/7"s and a split 7" with Extreme Noise Terror.
Once again they co-operate with one of or maybe the best label(s) in extreme music (that means either punk / hardcore or crust / metal), Deathwish Inc, so it's not a surprise that the whole album is a dynamite...
Starting out from the cover and the artwork, that features various collages, a strong feeling of darkness and depression fills your heart and mind... It was designed, of course, by Jacob Bannon, vocalist / lyricist of Converge and Deathwish owner, responsible for almost all the great album artworks of the label's releases.
Heading on to the music area, I have to inform you that Trap Them features ex-members of Backstabbers Inc and December Wolves, plus Mike Sustain (Unearth, Shai Hulud) on drums...
Their -10 songs- opus is influenced by hardcore / punk / metal music in general, whether this is crust / d-beat or Entombed-like mind destroying mid tempo metal, or even Black Flag-ish fast hardcore / punk... If we wanna draw influences from specific bands, then we have to put in the blender Black Flag, Tragedy and Entombed, add a strong dose of Disfear and serve with a thin Converge rind...!
The lyrics, or better the poems, are dreadful, depressive, complicated and dark, but fueled with a strong personal touch of the feelings of Ryan Mckenney (the vocalist of the band). They seem so real and unique...
Oh the record just finished... I'm gonna push repeat and see ya later.
P.S. They played in Greece some months ago, I still regret it for not joining the show...
