Underground Union Records
The Underground Union is an independent crew of young people based in Heraklion / Crete (GR).
Their main goal is to promote all the kinds of alternative music, from punk rock to rockabilly and from hardcore to ska, in the island of Crete and specifically in the capital city called Heraklion.
They are active for 2,5 years till now and they have organized a lot of shows and parties during this period.
Their events are based on the Do It Yourself ethics and values like solidarity and altruism.
In my humble opinion, activities, like the ones that Underground Union does, are vital for the existence of the whole punk scene.
It's awesome that individuals gather and organize events together without the goal of making money or gaining something out of this.
So, lately the Underground Union got a record label section.
Their newest output is ironically called Μοναδικές επιτυχίες σε περίοδο κρίσης (translated in english 'special hits in a period of crisis') and features 21 songs (some of them previously unreleased) by various bands from all over Greece, that had the chance to play at one of the events that Underground Union has organized till now.
All styles are included; punk rock, rock 'n' roll, hip hop, hardcore, ska, oi!, psychobilly.
Some of the bands that participate are Bandage, Τοξικά Απόβλητα, Burn The Boredom, The AAS, Oi! Askimoi!, Green Goblins, Voodoo Healers, Ντέρτι Dancing, Pornostroika Dadaifi and Άδειες Μέρες.
There's a funny yet very interesting song included, as well, called 'Μου 'χεις κάνει voodoo' (You have voodooed me), plus an intro & outro taken by a local radio show.
All in all, this is a very nice compilation that everyone involved in the local scene should support.
It features a great cover, it's cheap (no more than the cost of a beer) and it's underground as hell.
